We’re celebrating 35 years in San Diego with a storewide sale the month of March. After three decades of searching out the finest array of furniture and accessories, we want to thank our customers for their loyalty and patronage.
Quoting an article in a local magazine that recalled a buying trip several years back amidst a torrential downpour in a small village, Anne the buyer and one of the owners of this family run business, told the reporter of coming across a cabinet full of mice that elicited a high pitched scream and much to the reporters amusement, a striking similiarity to the Indiania Jones adventures so beloved by moviegoers.
With all the hardships and complications involved running an international business, it has all been worth it to witness the satisfaction of hearing our customers say they treasure the pieces they have purchased over the years and intend on passing them down to the next generation. Satisfying your customers desires and offering them a little bit of adventure of their own, if only vicariously, is a truly fulfilling acheivement.
Celebrating 35 years!

Exciting New Tibetan Shipment
August 16th, 2011An exciting new find has arrived in our store and we wanted to share the excitement with you. Tibetan art has always had its ties to the Buddhist religion practiced there, and as such the iconography displayed over seemingly every surface incorporates the fantastical beings and beasts, both real and mythical, that populate the cultural and religious landscape. From the silver and brass Shaman headdress that is crowned by a ring of manically grinning skulls, to the heavily chased repousse silver seals embellished with turquoise nuggets and carved amber plaques, there are dozens of pieces to choose from. The variety of deities is staggering in its scope and intricacy. There are gold leaf bronze to brass and copper, some with painted details while others have had their costumes highlighted with tiny cabochons of turquoise and coral. Large and small wooden trunks that are trimmed with iron hardware offer the Indiana Jones in all of us the ability to bring home a chest that could have held the exotic treasures of some unknown nomadic traveler making a pilgrimage to Lhasa. Tibetan Thankgas are another source of wonderment with their exuberant colors and careful attention to detail in the depiction of the assorted gods and goddesses and the rituals they depict, something akin to the illuminated manuscripts of the medieval period in Europe. And lest we forget, there are innumerable bells, horns, oil lamps, ceremonial accroutements and the list goes on and on. We hope you come and see these exquisite offerings from a region where few get the opportunity to ever visit and before they and their way of life disappear forever.

Yes, we do carry solid wood and rustic furniture…
February 3rd, 2010Sometimes an unexpected comment can trigger an ah–ha moment, where you are confronted with a question or solution that seems so obvious, so simplistic that you wonder – why didn’t I think of that?
Yesterday evening just such an occurrence happened. A young woman, having recently moved to the city, came into our store and was astonished at the collection of furniture and art contained within this unprepossessing building. After perusing for a few minutes, she came over to where we were in the midst of a discussion concerning a marketing proposal and made a seemingly innocuous observation.
Her question as to why we hadn’t shown up on her internet search for either rustic or solid wood furniture in San Diego brought us to a standstill. So focused on our own experiences in the usage of various terms used to describe specific items such as cabinets, tables and so on, we neglected to use the words rustic, or even more surprisingly – solid wood.
As these are descriptions both ourselves and our customers use daily to convey the attributes of literally hundreds of furniture pieces in our store, it came as a surprise that something so glaringly apparent was overlooked.
It’s always a guessing game in trying to figure out how someone is going to search for a particular object, and as was made abundantly clear – sometimes you need to get some input from your clientele.
With this focus in mind, I would like to let all of our new potential customers know that we do indeed carry solid wood furniture, and quite a bit of it is on the rustic side.
If you come into our store you will find tables made from old doors that look as if they had come out of some medieval castle. With their rustic charm and heavy ironwork decorating the surface, they work particularly well in Spanish or Mediterranean settings.
The dozens of cabinets that are scattered throughout the showroom are more evidence of what solid wood construction has to offer in terms of quality, character and patina. Ranging from solid elm to walnut and other hardwoods, these substantial pieces are often decorated with hand-painted details that evoke a time and place not often glimpsed in today’s hurly burly world. With hues ranging from soft terra cotta to sage green, these are the chameleons of the design world where no matter what look you are trying to achieve, we have the piece that will work for you.
And lest I forget to mention the dozens of solid wood architectural fragments, courtyard doors and window screens that populate our inventory, I hope that you begin to get the idea of just how vast and varied our stock truly is.
